Green Tea – and its benefits!

A little history

Green tea has been around for centuries, but it wasn’t until recently that it became a central part of any conversation in which nutrition and health make an appearance. This is because as time goes by, scientists and nutritionists continue to discover the benefits of this precious plant, and judging by what we already know, green tea seems to bring nothing but good news.

Green tea originated in China, and has only recently been adopted by the Western world, where it quickly became a substitute for the already popular black tea. Over time, it became readily apparent that there is more to green tea than meets the eye, and today it is an important part of certain nutritional supplements, beverages, and even cosmetics.

 

What are the benefits of green tea?

Because of the way it is processed, green tea is loaded with antioxidants, which help prevent cell damage and even fight disease. It also has been shown to improve the flow of blood and lower cholesterol, which in turn prevents certain forms of heart disease.

As if this weren’t enough, green tea can help maintain healthy blood sugar levels in people with diabetes, as well as prevent the formation of plaque in those who are afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. Green tea is also low in calories and caffeine, which means that it will help you relax and even lose some weight.

Just to give you some quick numbers: it has been estimated that by drinking one or two cups of green tea in place of a can of soda every day, at the end of one year you will have lost between 15 and 20 pounds. And while this may not seem like much at first glance, keep in mind that you will lose the weight even if you do not make any other changes to your lifestyle. That’s pretty amazing, don’t you think?

 

How to prepare green tea?

There are several ways to add green tea to your daily life, all of which depend on your specific taste and how much time you have on your hands. Even so, the best way to enjoy green tea is to just sit back and relax as you take in its refreshing flavor while you hold your favorite cup in your hands. Green tea still holds a lot of secrets that need to be unlocked, but we can leave that to the scientists. For now, just taking a few minutes to breathe in the heady aroma of a cup of tea is a wonderful way to start your day.
